    Administrator account on XP Home

I'm trying to set up a couple of profiles with certain privileges on ths PC here, but there's no Users/ Groups option in Computer Managment, and when I try to log on as administrator it just says "You cannot log in due to a restriction on the account" (or something).

Is this just how XP Home is by nature - retarded - or is it something to do with the manufacturers restore disks (custom windoze jobbies are sometimes fascist like that)?

I think you have to boot into safe mode to access the Admin Account on XP Home.

Microsoft Support is here to help you with Microsoft products. Find how-to articles, videos, and training for Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft 365, Windows, Surface, and more.

I'm sure theres a reason why but im ****ed if i know.

Why they couldn't use the same method as on XP Pro to activate hidden logon box (ie pressing cntl alt delete twice at the welcome screen).

Nice one sir, I also would like some sane explanation as to why they made some things in XP unneccessarily complicated.

You know, I had to change a registry key just to set file and folder permissions on XP Pro? Madness!!

Still can't get into User/ Group Management though, I think it's just XP Home that doesn't let you configure anything. What a waste of space.

I have avoided it as much as possible. XP pro all the way !

XP Home seems to have the power of Pro, but has had its balls removed.

A lot of branded machines, such as Toshiba, Dell etc that come with Win XP Preinstalled usually have two Administrator accounts, there is the one that is previously mentioned that can be logged on as in Safe Mode, but there is sometimes another one called "Default" or "Owner" depending on the manufacturer. You can logon to these by using the ctrl+alt+[deletex2] method already described.

              Backwards i know :-(

The problem is that these are two seperate things.

You've got an account with full admin privileges. That bit is easy and simple to do (in fact its the default amount of privs when you create a new user).

These guys are after an actual 'Administrator' account, as some annoying things want you logged in under an account of that name to work.

                      Exactly, mid.

XP Home is far from ideal in an office environment, especially when we're trying to implement seperate admin/ user accounts for the first time. Well, it's actually Power User accounts we're trying to set up for users, but XP Home only has administrator and "limited" user accounts
