Will I be able to play the US version of Disgaea with a flip-top PS2? Also, any idea if there is a list of games that will/will not work with it?

The succes rate for original DVD import games, is about the same as with DVD-R backups. But new games in the Dual Layer DVD-9 format might not work because of the extremly big TOC (table of content) size around 7-9 GB. Swap Magic Boot Discs only have a TOC size of around 4.35GB. But a backup of a Dual Layer game applyed with a patch might work. Like - there is a patch for Xenosaga from Paradox. Xenosaga is a Dual Later DVD-9 game with a TOC size around 8GB.

Sometimes I get the feeling I have a 'Fleece Me' sign attached to my head. All I wanted to do was play import games. I work out I can't play PSOne games on the thing, and now I may not be able to play Disgaea, or when it comes out, Kingdom Hearts 2. Next time, I'm getting a chipped console from the start.

why can't swap magic discs have a TOC size of 8 GB? why only 4,5GB?
I bought the flip top lid for the sole purpose of playing xenosaga, only to find out the damn thing won't boot. When i'm suggested by the retailer that i can "make a backup of the game, and combine it with swap magic disc and some other disc (what kinda solution is that?)", it would seem kinda easier to just buy a ntsc ps2.
And where i live, chipping your pal ps2 costs the same as importing a ntsc ps2.
I agree with moodmon, next time it's chipping from the get go.
or better yet, import from japan.

I did manage to find this... http://www.ps2cover.com/breakerpropal.html which may be able to help, but I'm not sure how it works.
EDIT - In fact, I'm seriously considering just selling the damn thing and getting a new chipped one. Mental note - Don't go for flip-top lid ever again.Last edited by Moodmon; 01-07-2004, 23:06.
