Internet Explorer Tool bar (and Tools menu) problem

    Hi guys,

I recently downloaded a program called Flash Hunter (By Flash2x) as it reckoned it could make saving Shockwave Flash movies in IE easier.

I installed it but it didn't really do what I wanted so I uninstalled it.

However it has left it's little mark on my system and whilst it's not actually causing any problems it's just bugging me!

In my main IE toolbar there was a button for it, but with no icon - the button itself I could remove which was easy. The thing that is bugging me is that every time I go into the edit toolbar the blank Flash Hunter button is still there to add even though I uninstalled it?! How do I get rid of this?

It has also stuck itself in the 'Tools' drop down menu at the top. It is under where it says 'mail and news, synchronize and windows update' Again whilst it's not doing anything it bugs me!

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Dave

Im not sure of this program or how legit it is, but if its worth its salt it might have a homepage and perhaps a support forum where there may be a fix for this. Its not something which could be removed using programs like Adaware is it? You could try renaming the local machine Internet Explorer key also.

It's a proper legit prog. You get a trial version and you can purchase a full version of it. It basically checks the web pages and can look through temporary internet files to pull out animations etc.

I've tried running Adaware and Spybot but it's still there.

I don't have a clue how to do the last thing you suggested (local machine Internet Explorer key), how would I do this? Is it easy?

      Cheers

Its a registry thing, close your browsers, enter regedit into run command and browse to - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ - and rename the internet explorer key to OLD_Internet Explorer or whatever. Upon relaunching the browser it should reset itself as fresh, which may or may not fix your problem.

Its a long shot, and probably one of the last resorts. Id definitly investigate their website first and perhaps ask on their forum (if they have one) before doing the above. If it does mess up, you can always delete the new key and rename the old one back.

It sounds like a application mess up, quirk or issue, so may be documented. The other thing you could try is to reinstall that application again, and remove it after a reboot, theres a chance it may correct itself.

          Thanks for the advice Marcus.

I have now managed to fix this problem.

I didn't regedit like you susgested but I did look on the app website and check any info they may have had, but there wasn't anything there.

I did email the site but have not yet recieved anything.

I did decide to take a look at the registry myself and see if I could find anything relating to the prog. A couple of searches later and I found quite a few keys relating to this prog - most specifically under IE and in the toolbar sections etc. I deleted all of them and problem solved

Thanks for the advice all the same!
