Graphics Card or Monitor ? Which is b0rked ?

For some reason my monitor has started going mental the past two weeks or so.

With no disconcernable pattern or time scale it starts clicking in and out of different screen sizes.

It almost like its trying to refresh the screen but it resizes it ( almost as if someone is playing with the screen horizontal and vertical settings).

Sometimes it'll do it once and then go back to normal. Other times it will do it do much that using the computer is impossible.

I'm not using anything to force refresh rates and the problem is so intermittent that I can't hook it up to another monitor to test it. All the cables are connected securely.

My graphics card has always been a bit iffy since I bought it a year ago which makes me wonder if that may have been something to do with it.

Anyone ever had this problem ?

If you mean by "resizing the screen" that the actual resolution changes itself then it'll be your card/ driver.

If, however, it's the actual dimensions of the image within the physical screen (as though you've been adjusting it on the monitor itself), then it'll be the monitor that's iffy.

    Have you tried re-installing drivers?

Yep, tried re-installing with no joy.

Sounds like its the monitor as its the physical screen thats altering

I'll hazard a guess and say monitor as well.

Yeah I had problems like that with a monitor I used to own. I moved mine around tons, so it was a bit mis-treated.

Thing is though, Chief, VGA cables are normally welded in to monitors. Not the sort of things you can swap out, even if they are b0rked.

I've even checked the connector pins just in case one of those was damaged but they're all OK.

Guess I'm going to have to cough up for a new monitor, which is annoying cos unlike taurusnipple I've treated mine with nothing less than tender loving care since day one.

Trust me to get the ungrateful bitch monitor from hell
