Mario Vs Donkey Kong

I've done all of the normal and plus levels and I want to get all of the stars before tackling the expert levels.

I was merrily going through the early levels getting all the stars I didn't get first time round with no problems. Until level 3-2.

I don't understand it. I go through both parts of the level as fast as I can, getting all the presents on the way, but I still finish about 10,000 points short of the star. Clearly this isn't just a case of shaving a couple of seconds off my time, I'm going about it in entirely the wrong way.

Can anyone help me? I follow the only route I can see and I'm still way short. The only other explanation I can think of is that collecting the 1-up reduces your points. But I know that's clutching at straws...

I just checked to see if I'd gotton the star on that level and I have! Don't have time to go through the level right now, but if nobody else can help you out in the meantime I'll get back to you and see what I can do.

I didnt think i should start a thread for this so I am also stuck of Mario VS Donkey Kong on level 4.5

I get past the first round but then the second one i am stumped. You have to hit the 3 coloured switches. Red Yellow and Blue from memory. What am i doing wrong?

The 3 switches on the ground you start of with, you see the yellow ghost above you? get that guy across to the the ladder above the spring. You need the ghost solid so you can spring onto him, use him as a platform to jump onto the ladder. BLUE, RED, BLUE then YELLOW should do that part. Once at the top of the ladder you will see the 2 blue ghost, you need these guys solid to get to the top, hit the blue button only when the ghosts are in a step like formation above the spikes. Don't forget to get the single blue ghost solid below the ropes though, get him trapped between a solid yellow ghost and the left hand side wall.

I've discovered the answer to my problem. It was because I was losing lives. If you lose a life it drastically reduces the number of points you get, making it impossible to get the star.
