    Playstation 2 Progressive Scan Quesion

Got a new Plasma Screen Tv on Monday (Hitachi 37PD5000) and have today hooked up my PAL PS2 via component inputs (and changed the necessary setting in the PS2 config menu).

I have 4 PAL games which supposedly support PS.

    The Getaway
    Jak 2: Renegade
    Soul Calibur 2
    Tekken 4

The manuals for all of them (except SC2 which fails to mention PS at all) state that Progressive modes for the games are for TVs that support 525P. According to the manual for my TV 525P is not a video mode it supports (480P,576P and 780P are the modes listed iirc).

Loading Jak 2, T4 and SC2 and selecting the PS option results in the game displaying fine. However, with The Getaway as soon as PS is selected the display has pink hue.

Is this pinkness a result of displaying a 525P image on a display that doesn't support it? If so, why do Jak2 and T4 (which according to the manuals output 525P as well) display fine? Is there a possibility that even though I'm selecting the progressive option the TV is actually displaying a regular interlaced picture (I'll admit that I am struggling to see a massive improvement when playing in PS).

If anyone could provide clarity on this 525P issue it would be much appreciated

    Isn't 525p the same thing as 480p?

      ^^
      Yes they are the same.
Over at AV forums Ive just noticed that several people complaining of the exact same problem with the Getaway.

One chap said that he 'solved' this by switching his telly to RGB rather than PS (though still hooked up through component cable) so does this mean the 'The Getaway' (PAL) doesn't support PS after all?.....

The getaways ps code is a bug, in the pal version you aren't meant to see the option.

My plasma says 525p for 480p games, 750p for 720p games (and 525i for Sky etc). Just a "European thing" I guess.
Here's a solution for The Getaway - turn it off

To enable Progressive Scan on Soul Calibur 2 hold down Triangle and X during the startup of the game (at least you do in my Asian one...)

Just hold triangle and X as you would hold B on GC.

yeah, then choose the left option then riight. Its a little confusing unless you can read Japanese......:S

You should notice a slight flicker as it switches into PS, or that might just be my TV ???
