Dead GC - help me please!

    Hello all

I came home from work to a dead Gamecube yesterday. My Girlfriend had tried to turn it on, but there was no power whatsoever. I tried a different stepdown, but that didn't do the trick.

My Girlfriend says she didn't hear any popping sounds or see any smoke or anything like that.

Any suggestions on what this could be?

Try another PSU - any region will work on any machine. If that works then a fuse or some other component has blown in your existing PSU.

If you try another PSU and it still doesnt work then the fuse has blown on the regulator board underneath the Gamecube's motherboard.

    Both are easy to repair.

does your girlfriend know that a stepdown is required

maybe she plugged a uk lead into it or she plugged the Ntsc lead straight into a uk outlet

      just a guess

Its always plugged into its own stepdown round the back of cabinet thing. She wouldn't have had any need to touch it.

I'll try a new PSU this weekend Saur. Can't get one before then I'm afraid.

By the way Saur, I remember reading that you were fitting San Wa parts into DC arcade sticks. You got any buttons and Joysticks sitting around that you'd sell? I might be around this weekend, so could swing by yours if you've got any going.

Yeah man I have some buttons only - they're ?3 each or ?15 for 6.

You should have room to fit them inside a DC stick although I havent tried it, the switches stick out the back of the buttons further so they dont fit inside arcade sticks that dont have much room inside.

That wouldn't be a problem. The power supply is external (it's the box in the middle of the power cable) so you can easily use a UK one on a US machine.
