    The Megadrive Situation...?

    Hi,
Could anyone please help me with the situation regarding Megadrives and imports, chips etc?

I was recently given a PAL Megadrive by a mate, and I have a couple of games for it. I used to have one back in the day and had a nice solid collection of games (all PAL). I want to get into the import MD scene as there is a lot of gems out there, and obviously have the decent display over PAL.

I am sure I read somewhere you can switch PAL Megadrives for 60hz and territory selection, although some later games don't work. Also that there is an RGB modification possible on the machine too.

I was wondering how hard it is to perform the switch/s and RGB mod, or if it woud be easier to hunt down a Japanese machine? Then I'd still have the job of wanting RGB on the machine.. I'd prefer a Japanese machine to be honest as I only have import kit (bar the Xbox), but if a PAL machine which I have already would be much easier (than finding a Jpn deck) then that might be best

Any help, URLS etc would be appreciated. Thanks.

RGB means just buying a RGB SCART lead for around ?10 or so.

Modding them is a piece of cake, however it's been talked about 3,000,000,000,000 times before so just use the search facility on the bar above..

Cheers. Doesn't look like it will be difficult to mod at all. I just had a look at the points to solder, and it seems fairly straight forward - much easier points to solder than a PlayStation mod, thats for sure

One question, though: On the revisions of the Mk1 Megadrive, do the JP1,JP2 etc points always mean the same thing, even if they are located and put in a slightly different setup?

Good news on the RGB - I thought I would of needed to hardwire it..

        Thanks.

I've yet to purchase from http://www.consolepassion.co.uk/ YET - but the guy who runs the site has answered all my e-mails promtly and I'm certainly considering a modified MegaDrive II console myself.
