Alternative to Office?

For some bizzare reason MS Office increasingly gets bigger with
each version instead of better and it makes me want something
better than this, is there?

Dont think its better but cheaper, and written by someone other than M$ so the chances are it wont crash (as much).

www.openoffice.org is the free version of StarOffice. It isn't perfect, but is very useable.

I seem to recall reading recently that MS paid Sun $2bn to stop work on StarOffice (and therefore OpenOffice too). It's possible that I just made that up... anybody else heard it?
