Fixing Broken Cables

I have narrowed a problem I am having with a peripheral down to a segment of cable that must have a dodgy wire inside it. The thing is I am not sure how I can fix this.

At the moment I am considering cutting the offending peice of cable out and rejoining all of the good bits of wire together.

Or trying to remake whole length of cable, the only thing is that I have not a clue how to make my own cable. It would have to have 8 internal wires and those special plastic bits that hold it in position when it joins the controller.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to how I can fix this?

It is the cable that goes from the Samba de Amigo maracas sensor box to the maracas. I think it might just a peice of Dreamcast standard cable.
