English to Japanese translation

Does anyone know of a site that will give the Japanese text (symbols) when I enter some English?

I have found dictionary.com and freetranslation.com which both do traditional and simplified Chinese but not Japanese.

Altavista is the obvious one but it outputs a higher level of gibberish than the one above.

Is Japanese similar to Chinese then? Some of the characters Altavista is giving me look the same.

You use Hiragana (phonetics for Japanese words), Katakana (phonetics for foreign words) and Kanji which as you say are derieved from Chinese characters.

Serious man - you should learn Katakana, I got it in just over a week and I'm a complete pothead!

It's an extremely useful skill! And you DO look the don just skimming through Japanese title spines at the shops rather than looking at the covers like t3h n00b$
