ok this is ridiculous - bit torrent help needed

Ok, I'm using a iBook and have a 750 connection from blue yonder. I am connected to my pc in the other room through its network card.

So, thats a brief description of my setup, but heres the problem. I use azureus to download torrent files, and at this moment in time I have a total download speed of 7.5kb/s for 3 downloads. I.e, its ****ing ridiculously slow.

So I'm in need of help. As mentioned, Im currently connected through the pc, which in turn is connected to my cable modem. Would it make a difference if I just connected my iBook up straight to the cable modem and forgot about the pc altogether?

As you can imagine, this is driving me ****ing insane, and I'm more than a little pissed off with this at the moment. So, help me o' wise ones.

What firewall is setup on the PC? If none (that you know of), did you run the ICS wizard to setup internet sharing? If so, XP (another assumption) will turn it on the windows firewall by default.

If there is a firewall in place, you'll need to open tcp/udp ports 6881 thru 6999.

Try connecting the iBook direct. No idea if OSX has a firewall by default, but it might aid determining the above if you're unsure.

Bit Torrent speeds are entirely dependant on the number of active seeds. It can vary wildly from very slow (1k/sec) to very fast, and change at any moment if some vital seed goes offline.

You just have to accept it for what it is, leave the computer on all the time and your files will arrive... eventually.
