I'm helping a friend set up his Xbox for Live this weekend, because he's a total div and doesn't have a clue about anything. He's got his computer upstairs plugged into a shabby USB modem, and his Xbox is downstairs.
I'm taking round my old Ethernet modem to plug into the Xbox, and then I'll connect that to the downstairs phone line. Am I right in thinking he must only have one of these modems switched on at any time or they'd both be assigned the same IP address and neither would work properly? Or could they both be switched on as long as only one is actually transmitting and receiving data?
