    Odd and annoying PC problem

I was happily working away on my pc earlier when annoyingly the power went.
Upon starting up checkdisc ran. Fine i thought there should be no problems.
    I was wrong.
Checkdisc initially failed on its second check (file indexes i think) and turns itself off. I try again later and the second check works but only after deleting alot of apparently corrupt files and then then 'orphaned' files are recovered and put into certain files.
Now when everything finally boots up i have a look round and everything seems to be in its place but things load slightly slower. However in any window when i click 'file' 'edit' 'view' etc the options appear extremely slowly for some reason. Ive tried system restore from 2 seperate restore points but each time the restore fails
My growing fear is that this will be a rather expensive problem.

Im using Windows XP home edition. A 2.5 gig processor and a have gig of ram.
Any help would be extremely useful.
    Thanks

Try running Disk Cleanup or Defrag first, maybe a bunch of stuff has been moved around when the files where orphaned and you probably have some crappy backup files created by the error you don't need anymore.

Either that or its Backup and Format time

Don't bother with windows restore points.

Order yourself Acronis TrueImage for making restore points:

One piece of software worth it's weight in gold. Any time my PC seems sluggish
I hit reset button put self booting Acronis CD in, 2 minutes later, back to freshly
installed speed, pays for itself in the time saved if I reinstalled window.
