    ECC and non-ECC RAM

    Buying a memory upgrade.

I currently have non-ECC ram, would this work with ECC ram on a different channel (it's RDRAM, hence the reason I'm finding it very hard to find any RAM anywhere)?

    Cheers for any response.

    And stfu Stu/yash/AMD lubbers :P

it might, depends really on the motherboard.

I don't think you can mix ECC and non-ECC ram. Certainly most motherboards wouldn't let you. Apart from anything, the ECC checks would cause all sorts of nasty timing mishaps, I'd have thought.

Scan (yuck, but what can you do?) have some non-ECC RIMMs, by the way. Though at ?160 for a 512Mb stick, the temptation to ditch your current board and upgrade to something that takes some fast DDR must be tempting.

Well, I've just bought 512meg (2 x 256) ECC at ?160. Gotta buy them in pairs, coz it's RDRAM. If I can't add this to my current non-ECC 256meg I've currently got, then 512 is still enough for Doom.

        I hope
