    Flash a 9800 Pro > 9800 XT

This thread is for anyone who is wanting to make their 9800 Pro into an 9800 XT. This is all your own risk of course, don't blame me if it goes wrong:

    9800 Pro > 9800 XT

My card doesn't clock to 9800 XT speeds so I can only make it a 9800 XT with 9800 Pro clock speeds.

I think its any 9800 Pro with an r360 chip. You also have to find out if your card will overclock to XT speeds and you must also find out what memory your card has too.

You can find out your chip by looking under the heatsink on the actual chip and the memory should also be named on the card.

The better overclockers are actually the original r350 chips that have decent samsung ram.

Flashing a pro to an xt is usually for bragging rights - and makes little/no difference.

Uh, then what's the point? The only difference *could* be the memory timings (I'm not sure if they differ between the Pro/XT), but if these are much shorter, it could hinder your maximum overclock, and at worst could affect stability at clock speed. Of course, if they're longer it's going to hinder general performance

Apartently, according to that site I linked:

The XT core is slightly more efficient with its use of "Hierarchial Z" (a chip feature), and thus gives you increased performance over the 9800 Pro bios.

Note that this doesn't always work and when it doesn't it can cause major artifacts to start appearing.

Yeah if you are going to do it make sure you read the whole guide in that link I posted.

There is a safety feature with that flashing tool though if you back up your bios to the floppy disc first, however I would still be very careful.
