    PC Joypads?

Can anybody recommend a decent PC joypad? Every single one I've ever used has had a horrendously squidgy D-Pad that feels like it's analogue even though it's not, if you get my meaning.

Up until now, I've played so few joypad requiring PC games it's made next to no odds, but now I've got hold of ISS3 and GG: Reload, I'd prefer to have something a litte, er... stiffer.

    Ahem.

And of course, it wouldn't go amiss for a rapidly growing MAME collection either...

know what you mean, why not get a PS2 pad adaptor (about ?8 ) which allows you to use a PS2 pad via the USB port (assuming you've got a PS2 )

I would do that, but I'm none too keen on the Dual Shock D-Pad, and I'm having to leave my PS2 at home when I go back to Uni in september. My Dad's threatening to stop helping out financially if I seperate him from Gran Tourismo...

Actually, I don't like any of the current console generation D-Pads, now I come to think of it.

there's a few here but I couldn't comment on their "stiffness" - might be a few reader reviews though ?

I've always liked the Logitech pads. I've currently got a Saitech one which isn't bad but I wouldn't have said it was upto console standards. I'd go for a Logitech Wingman Rumblepad if you can find one - wish I hadn't wrecked mine.

I've got a snes converter because the snes D-pad is the greatest d-pad ever.

I use my Soul Calibur 2 stick with the Joybox-13 GC to USB converter. Nice. The current version of the PC MagicBox does all six buttons on the DC stick as well, if you prefer that.

I've got a Thrustmaster style one in the Prince of Persia livery. It came with my copy of PoP on the PC surprisingly enough. Unfortunately, it's rubbish for everything but PoP (which is analogue). I mean, every time I think I've seen the worst D-Pad possible, along comes another one

Yes, for Digital pads your only real hope is a converter from some sort of console one (just about every console in history has a converter to PC available, so just pick which one you like). Some PC-dedicated pads have respectable analogue bits, but their digital controls are uniformly terrible.

Or use a stick, like I said before...

That's what I was afraid of... I guess a converter is the only way to go since the D-Pad is currently more important to me than the analogue side of things.

Any ever tried the Gravis Gamepad Pro? Yes, the d-pad isn't perfect, but it's fairly cheap and I managaed to play many emulated games on it (like FF3/6, Super Metroid).

I use a USB converter with a PS pad but I've also got a MS Sidewinder Gamepad - It's not perfect by any means but it's far better than any other PC pad I've used.
