    Increasing your frame per second...

Earlier I was pondering over what really is the driving force in your computer to increase in-game performance, quite obviously - a lot of you would say - is the CPU, RAM and Graphics Card, now out of these 3 which is probably the most performance deciding peice of hardware? I ask since Doom3 is quite demanding on my machine, its ok when theres no action but at critical points like fire fights and scary bits when smoothness is esstential it all slows down. Now I thought a 2ghz CPU and a 256mb ATI 9600XT with 512 RAM would be sufficent, if I was to double my RAM size to 1GB and enable dual channel mode between the two memory modules (its in single at the moment cos I only have one memory module) Would I see a performance increase???

    Many Thanks, Mark.

    Yes you would.

You can't really say what's going to increase your FPS. Basically, work out the weakest link in your computer, and upgrade that.

For example, you could have a 6800 Ultra in a P3 600, and it'd be like ass. You know what to upgrade.

Ive heard stories about getting identical RAM modules in order to enable Dual Channel or it wont work, is this true?

I dunno about it not working, but it'd certainly be better with identical sticks.

I guess differing sizes would fook it up completely though.

I upgraded my memory at the weekend to run as dual channel, DDR400. I got no extra FPS but its running a lot smoother that it did when i was running 768meg in single channel.
