    International Incompatibility

I recently moved to the UK from America, I have a step down power converter that seems to have the proper power rating and my PS2 works but only for a limited time before switching into the power save/stand by mode. I'm aware that since my PS2 runs on 110/120V AC that a direct 220/240V AC would be very bad for the unit. I am however curious about the prospect of replacing my internal power supply with the UK's stock 220V AC. Would this solution work better than me just going through numerous step down converters hoping that I might fine one that will last? I'm under the assumption that the internal components are the same and if the power supply were changed to one that accepts the UK voltage then the PS2 (with a new UK PS2 AC adapter) should work as it did while I was living in the US. Then all it would take is a simple mod chip to go region free. Any feedback on this matter would be most appreciated.

Your stepdown doesnt have a high enough rating for the PS2 - get yourself stepdown with a rating suitable for the machine such as this one:

Anything around about 100w is enough for a PS2.

If your TV has a SCART socket grab yourself an RGB cable while you're shopping too: http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?cat...oducts_id=267&
(analogue component input for greatly improved image, colour encoding is indepenent of PAL/NTSC video standard *so if you get colour problem when running your machine here this is your solution* - once you buy the cable, set your machine to RGB output in system settings)
But whether you have colour issues or not - RGB is the way to go (unless you are using component/progressive)

You're right, it's possible to replace the internal PSU - but it's a lot easier to use a stepdown.
