Anyone using a Linksys WGA11B wireless adapter?

I picked one up and it doesn't do what it says on the tin. Specifically, if I turn off SSID broadcast and put the correct SSID into the P1 setting, the WGA11B loses it's wireless link. It only seems to like it if it's getting broadcast. It also refuses to connect my PS2 with WEP enabled.

So at the moment the only security I have is MAC filtering. I don't know if this worries me or not (as I don't use file/print sharing anyway)

But I was curious if it's because the device is faulty, or if that's just the way it is?

I have the WET11 which is similiar and it works with SSID broadcast switched off.

what wireless stuff are you using at the other end? Remember that you need to enter the SSID which _IS_ case sensitive into both devices. Also I recommend entering WEP keys in HEX format.

I'm using a linksys BEF..blah.. SRW11? or something. The SSID and WEP keys were identical, I used copy/paste to make sure. I think it's just a bit cack in all honesty.

But can I be bothered returning it (ordered over web).. hmmm... how serious are the security implications do you reckon?

try removing the wep key and just switching off the ssid broadcast.

THe security implications are low if you have mac address filtering on but determined hacker [i.e me] could be on your network in a few minutes].

I did that Neil, had the adapter sitting in front of me, and the moment I turned off broadcast, the wireless link led goes off.

The device trying to access the BEF should be fine as long as you have added it's mac address to a access control list on the BEF.
