PS2 Online wont work

Im from Ireland BTW.

I connected a "Network Gaming Hook-up Cable" straight-through ethernet cable to my NTL cable modem from my Network Adapter's ethernet port. I had all the settings correct from NTL, the DNS servers are correct, the IP info is automatic, but still it doesnt work, doesnt connect. How do I get it working? The phonelines said they havent tested PS2 but it should work since it works in England.

Im getting error: "Connection to the network cannot be established. Please try again."

NTL support wont help me because they havent tested it, I need some help elsewhere like here. Can you help me out?

No idea. Can you try setting it up by ICS first? Cos if you're PC can connect you could at least establish that it's going to work! A friend of mine does a direct connection but he says he had to do no configuration whatsoever. Maybe you should try putting auto-DNS on instead? Trial and error should sort it.
