    Laptop Recommendation

Are there any horror stories about these? Im looking at the P20 203

Although bulky and heavy I dont seem to hear of any other negative factors about them and the battery is fine at 2.5 hours long as I dont see myself using it on a plane journey for long although would be nice to be a little longer but then i can always buy a spare battery.

My budgets ?1200 due to this is what my parents spent on my bros laptop a few years ago when he went to Uni. So im trying to get one thats as near to the penny as possible hehe. Its ?1299 at its cheapest so Iv offered to pay the ?99

Havent found the 203 many places to buy so heres a link to the most similar one i could find the 801

Interesting also the Review by T3 mag not so many months ago the price was ?2200 and the best price I can find it for now is ?1299. Bargain?

Edit - The review is from Oct 03. Still its at about the right price for me now to be able to buy it. Back then ?2200 is just way too much. ?1200? Yes please.

Just got off the phone to Micro Anvika and they say that its been discontinued Just my bloody luck. The model superseding it is the P20 521. Best go have a look..

That looks really nice to me for the price.

    8 months ago my 2.6GHz,512mb RAM,60GB HD,DVD RW,64mb Ati 9600 cost me ?1050

I don't think laptops have moved that much since then - the graphics card on your one is much better than mine as is the processor.

Mine didn't have that monster of a screen either although mine does have an excellent screen.

Just come back from town and Iv placed an order for the Toshiba Satellite P20 801.

Its got a very tasty spec for a lovely price and best of all its got a Ferrari red lid hehe.

Got a 2 year warranty with John Lewis when PC World were only offering a 1 year one. Very happy.

A friend of mine has one - I was quite impressed when I used it. Sounds like a good purchase

It looked the absolute shizniz. I had a go with it in store but they had none in stock and 20 odd in their warehouse so ill have it on tuesday!

Absolutely huge 17 inch screen which will double up for me as a TV and DVD player if need be. Oh and an awfully slow 3.2ghz P4 processor. Fastest laptop? Must be up with the best of them for what was a very reasonable price.

I don't know if this is relevant, and probably the last thing you want to hear now, but I've heard a few negative things about the Toshiba's compatibility. Mind you, this is from hanging around music shops, where components tend to be moody at best and the customers know next to nothing about computers.

BTW, this was in regard to USB and Firewire audio devices. Doubt you'll be using them, but you never know.

I've used alot of laptops and in my view nothing comes close to Toshiba for solidness and reliability. I've tried Sony, Apple, Dell, Fujitsu and they all have major quality issues. I've got a Tecra M2 at the moment and its just stunning. Graphics could be better on it but its fine for games about 1 year old.

This might have been up your alley, then.

Neil : Yeah one of my friends has had a Toshiba laptop for 2 years and in his words its been 'mint'. I'm guessing that meant its been pretty good to him. Reliable and well built.

Stu : I havent even looked at the link but im betting its the Acer Ferrari one. I was kinda being slightly sarcastic saying that the red lid was why I bought it but it actually looks pretty nice in an odd way.

I couldnt afford the Acer though with my limit at ?1200 and by the sounds of things the Toshiba is one of the best specced laptops around for ?1299.

                  Cheers.

I've seen a few laptops on www.tiny.com for cheaper than the one you're talking about Ginza, but it's tiny's own laptops no toshiba, acer or other ones. If you go to the website and look under the power laptops section you can see what I'm talking about. There's one laptop there(can't remember which one) that has an A64 3000+, 1024MB RAM, 128MB mobility radeon 9700, 60/80 GB hard drive and some other stuff for about ?999 I think.

This is a different laptop and costs ?1199 --> tiny's laptop

edit: the only problem I can see is that I've no idea what the quality of tiny's laptops are, but they seem to be priced very cheaply.

I didnt look at the Tiny laptop for one second. Having previously owned a Tiny desktop the service was terrible whenever I had problems and needed it. The parts they used were **** and the What Laptop magazine that I just got doesnt rate them highly because of the support.

Am going to university and my parents said that if i got in to my first choice Uni then they would buy me a laptop. (This was because they didnt think that i was going to get in! HA!)

Its a true desktop replacement and much easier to take to Uni than me taking my huuuge monitor and base. Why do i need it? Err for work that I get set :P
