Hi chaps, got all my small bits for my new rig such as my nice sound system and wireless input devices, but I still have a big beige CRT monitor with my black system. I need a new TFT, preferbly 17" and wondered what you would recommend, as there is so much choice. I am using it for multimedia and gaming. Need some ideas and then I will go to the shops and see before I buy.

LG Flatron 1710B. Fantastic TFT. I use mine for graphics work, programming, and games, and it's surprisingly easy on the eye. 16ms response rate, although it looks far better than most 12ms monitors I've seen. Don't just go by the specs!

Probably the only bad thing about it is that I can't turn it around for TATE DC shooters.

I quite fancy the newer version: LG L1720B. It looks very nice but lacks DVI support, is this a big disadvantage?

Yes don't buy a screen without DVI.

Went to PC world and for some reason the display didn't look really sharp on the LG L1720B and it also lacked DVI. I need something that looks nice and is perfect for gaming and dvds.

Decided on the Samsung 172X as it looks very nice and has a respose time of 12ms. Anyone rate it? Also, it doesn't come with a DVI cable, but have noticed cables for ?2 upto ?20, is there much difference? Anyone care to recommend me a decent DVI cable?

dvi is just that.. digital, its like optical cable no matter how crap the cable as long as it works at all it'll work well

Another vote for the L1710B, DVI is excellent with this and it does come with the cable. Infact i have my servers on the analogue connection and it does look piss poor in comparison. Sadly the L1710B looks as if its been discontinued. The replacement, L1730B seems to be available on some sites, however LG show it as coming soon.
