What's best for personal data - DVD-RW or DVD+RW?

Which disc is best for personal backing up on own PC data?

I'll be using for my emu's and stuff but may need to erase the data and add things on the disc again... Plus which is faster now?

I also know DVD-RW's work fine on my Xbox Samsung drive...
Do DVD+RW have any problem on Xbox's?

well i'd say dvd-rw, +rw will be faster but -rw are cheaper

+ is the better standard, however the discs are generally more expensive.

If its data and you want to keep it do not use -RW as its the least reliable of all options.

Ifs its just general use then -RW will be cheapest option and you know it works aswell.

Personally, I'd get an LG drive, it does both +RW and -RW and also DVD-RAM. Then I'd use the the DVD-RAM for backup and DVD+/-R/RW for archives.

DVD-RAM is great because you drag and drop to it just like a harddrive and it can be reformatted/rewritten 100,000 or so times.

Well I've got a Pioneer A06 and it supports DVD-RW and DVD+RW.
From what I gather there seems to be only 2x DVD-RW's and DVD+RW's are upto 4x...

Which of these formats are most compatible?

Say for example I get rid of my A06 and get another DVD writer?

I understand that my DVD-RW's don't work in a normal DVD only drive on my PC as I've tried it on my 6x SCSI Toshiba DVD drive on my PC...

Disc compatibility will depend on the drive, phillai, rather than a universal rule that one format or another won't work with a "normal" drive.

As for the rest, you'd better be prepared to gather again! I burned a DVD-R just yesterday... on a Pioneer 105 (same as the A05, bar the shouting... er, I mean the pretty box and software)... at 4x. As for modern-day write speeds, on-line retailers are now displaying drives claiming up to 16x writing for both DVD-R and DVD+R (with 4x for +/-RW discs). I don't track this stuff down all day long*, but I haven't actually seen 16x-capable media yet...

dont use micro direct, right bunch of tossers

bought a sony 700 8x dvd rw from them last week, it wont write so i took it back, he tested it behind a partition so i couldnt see it, said it worked but wouldnt let me look and gave it me back robbing me off saying it needs to be set as a master drive, i did this, but it does everything but write dvds

never use MD ever again, spent s few thousand with em over the years and they piss me about over a ****ing ?50 writer!
