    Strange TV and Monitor problem

When the missus got her new pc we kept noticing how every so often the monitor would go all fuzzy and sometimes the screen would shake. I jus thought this might be something to do with the refresh rate or sommit and never thought much of it.

But we both noticed tonight how when the monitor just went into fuzzy mode (it does just like that doesn't build up its as thought its been turned on) the tv in the same room did the exact same thing. Wasn't fuzzy but was really shakey and gave me a headache while i was playing. Then when it stopped the monitor stopped at the exact same time!

Anyone got any ideas what could be causing this??

    Thanks a lot

Sounds to me like some sort of EM interferrence. When this happens, have you also done something like turn on a fan nearby, perhaps a blender, or a old vacumn, or something at all like that? If not, then it might just be a problem with the wiring in your house throwing off EM fields. It's happened before, trust me.

See, monitors and TVs are highly susceptable to EM fields. Take a magnet (no, not really, unless you want to ruin things) and run it by your TV screen and monitor screen. Or, take a pair of unshielded speakers and set them close. Fans and some blenders and vacumns do the same thing. They create and give off this oscillating EM field that screws with the pictures. The wiring in your walls can do the same thing. I've heard of people who've had your problem and moved the TV or monitor to another location, and then the problem vanished. It was because wires in the walls where the TV or monitor used to be. But, if the field is strong enough, moving them might not help much.

Really, I don't know what you can to stop it. Next time it happens, seei f you can notice if anything else happens at the same time. If you turned something, anything, on as well, or if something else kicked in on it's own. Like your air conditioning. ALso, try moving the TV or monitor when it happens to see if it stops. Let me know what happens.

The only thing on in here is basically the Pc, monitor, some new creative speakers, cable modem on the pc. Then a couple of metres away the TV and a console (either gc or xb).

But it'll do it even when nothing has been turned on say everything be on it'll go fuzzy, shakey whatever we just sit there and carry on and 5, 10, etc mins later it just stops.

It can be really bad especially on the pc from time to time.

Hhmm... Well, if were just one thing, then I'd say it was the TV or the monitor. But it's both, and that makes me think that it is something outside them, something in your house causing it. It's probably your wiring, and there is little you can do without getting an electrician out to check it out. I'm sure one of them could figure this out for you.

Do all TVs and monitors do this in your home?

Can't say we've noticed the tv downstairs doing it, i'll try and check next time it happens.

Thanks for all your help Justin

Happens to my mate's monitor. To do with his mobile phone. Whenever he gets a text or anything, his monitor goes fuzzy for about 20 seconds. Could be something like that.

Upper floor only huh? Are you perhaps near an electrical tower? It could also be caused by transmissions at your altititude. Not sure. I'm trying to not talk completely out of my ass here.

Also, if you live in a fairly old house, or in a block of flats or low-level apartments, the electricity loop could be extended to more than just your place, that is, someone else next door could be turning something on and spiking your electricity loop.
