    PC/Consoles/Wireless help

    Setup:

    Study
PC - with 10/100/1000 MBS Ethernet LAN card.
    Alcatel Frog USB modem.
    Windows XP Home

    Living Room
    XBrick
    PS2 with BBA
    Cube with BBA

Want to have wireless solution to allow me to take any of the consoles online. One interchangable connection to the consoles is fine.

What EXACTLY do I need. Links to required items on Ebuyer would be helpful.

    Many thanks.

Well you can do it a few ways but the way I would do it is:

    Wireless Router/ADSL & Cable Modem

    to

    PC through a wire
Ethernet To Wireless Bridge Adapter 802.11b > Xbox/PS2/GC

    So you would need:

    Broadband Router
    Ethernet to Wireless Bridge

I don't know if thats clear to you but I can draw a nice diagram if you wish. The main positive behind this setup is the fact that you don't have to leave your PC on to access the internet on your consoles.

Also if you don't want to change the network cables around in your living room then you could buy a cheap 8 port switch and plug the ethernet cables from the wireless bridge, xbox, PS2 and GC into it.

Infact I thought drawing a picture would be so much fun I did

Now that I think about it you only need 4 ports on your switch so here is the cheapest switch I could find.

      5 Port Switch

What are the transfer rates on FTP like compared to wired solutions?

IIRC 11mbs wireless, 100mbs wired. Max

802.11g is max 54mbps and 802.11b is 11mbps but typically you will only get between 50 and 70% of this... with the speed decreasing more with range.

Cheers. I'm not going to do a lot of FTP'ing. Was just wondering.

Presumably I can share my 1meg line connection between consoles and PC at the same time? ie. play online whlist downloading stuff on the PC?
