    Got my LCD TV!

My new toy, a Sony KLV26HG2 arrived today! (Most of below adapted from my site, sorry for not providing 100% original content )

It set me back 1230 UK pounds ($2210 US) which is a price I'm happy with. (The store price is about 1800 pounds). It took a while to actually find an LCD TV here that accepts Progressive Scan since they usually have the Component inputs removed in favor of SCART ones.

And, I don't think I could be more pleased with the set. So far there have been no nasty little surprises, (although I'm having some problems getting interlaced video over the Component inputs), and the image quality is excellent provided you give it a good quality source (garbage in, garbage out still applies).

The deinterlacing is unbelievably good. I tried and tried to catch it out and only managed to with Sonic Adventure DX running through S-Video, which is an extremely fast game - and it's possible to run it in Progressive anyway, once I get my Cube component cable and of course a Component switcher.

If anyone out there is considering buying this TV but isn't sure, feel very free to e-mail me and ask me any questions you might have, because I know how hard it is to actually get information from manufacturers.

Also, a good word to Electrosaver (www.electrosaver.co.uk) who kept their promise of free next day delivery. My compliments to the chef!

Well, Dreamcast through RGB SCART looks really good, and the conversion to pseudo-progressive that the set does internally means the Shenmue games no longer flicker like crazy.

S-Video is the best connection I have for my Gamecube right now, but this set even does a horribly good job of making Composite NTSC video watchable (EVERY bit of dot crawl is eliminated) so I can put up with S-Vid while I scrape the cash for a Component cable. Some games (I-Ninja with its fast frame rate and fast screen shakse is a good example) confuse the deinterlacer and show up interlacing artifacts, it's a pity the example I mentioned doesn't support progressive scan.

Christmas NiGHTS (RGB60) just looks gorgeous

Interesting note: it might just be because I tried it last night at 1am, but I tried hooking up my DVD player using the Component video inputs only using cheapo standard RCA/Phono video cables. I couldn't see a difference in the picture on playing DVDs in progressive scan (I'm shocked it even worked)... should I take another look or do expensive cables really not make much of a difference at all?

That doesn't look too sahbby at all.

What the list of inputs it has then? VGA somewhere I trust?

Sadly no, no VGA or DVI. That's probably this set's biggest downfall. I'm going to see what I can do with a DVI to Component converter for my ATI Radeon 9800 card, but I think that'll be inferior because of the scaling job that'll have to be done.

It does have however, 1 RGB SCART, 1 S-Video SCART, 1 set of Component inputs and a set of side S-Video and RCA/Phono inputs.

Lyris, where are you getting the component video convertor for the ATI cards? Only place I've seen 'em is on ATI.com who only ship to the US.

BTW you do realise you could have gotten a 36" Tosh Picture Frame 3 (with PAL and NTSC progressive) for less? Although that is a damn nice looking telly!

Really? Damn... the PF is an LCD, right? Damn, that's too bad, but I'm happy with this one.

              As for the converter:

I'm especially interested in flat-panel so I don't regret getting this instead then - I'm sitting right up in front of it and I have limited desk space.

Don't take my opinion too seriously, because I concentrate way more on video and don't really know much about the audio situation, but I haven't heard anything wrong with the sound at all. My last set had pretty tinny sound but nothing has struck me as especially wrong with the audio on this.
