      And what the job entails, right? .NET still only runs on the Windows platforms (and Mono on Linux I've heard is a bit of a joke) and is completely non-portable. This rules out all games (as much as I love Managed DirectX, its a bit of a piss take), smartphones and PDAs with non-MS OSs or anywhere where the .Net framework is not installed. Which is alot of places.
      But is it a lot of places? You'll find windows is still on 95% or more office computers.

        Yeah, the problem is that most people can only be arsed to download and install 20MB of runtimes if they need the application desperately or its bespoke, made for them.

        Try making Joe Bloggs "download the .net runtimes" to use your bo notepad killer. Not going to happen.
