    Original Japanese PS2 DVD trickery

I thought these could be made to run all region DVD's? Is this right? I have both the original versions of the driver disc V1.00 & 1.01 [??].

    What's the trick then

if i remember correctly it works only with the 1.00 disk you have to start ps2 without a game and then go to browser thenput your dvd in keep holding up on the d pad and select the dvd and it should run. Some dvds take more than one time to do this though apparently and some wont work at all
get back to me anyways because im prtty sure thats how you do it.

Yep thats the trick I think using the 1.00 drivers. Remember though, its not all region DVD - a JPN PS2 will simply NOT play PAL dvds in any shape or form!

That's fine! I just want to be able to play my US/Chinese [Ghibli] ones on it.

        Thanks much

Also, another trick I thought worked was to hold in the R3 button or the L3 button as it is booting up, cant quite remember though as I read that years ago

I found a Word doc on my PC with the following instructions:

            DVD Region Hack #1

Here are the instructions how to play Region 1 (USA) DVD's on the PlayStation 2 in combination with System-Disc v1.00 (this CD comes with all Japanese PS2 systems which are sold before April 2000):

            Hack #1:

Press & Hold the Circle, Right and L1 keys.

            Hack #2:

Press & Hold L3 & push the stick in hard

            Hack #3:

Boot into PS2 browser without a CD in the tray
Insert the Region 1 DVD you want to play
Press Circle and R1 on the DVD
            Hold Right until menu appears
            Press Circle and R1 again

            NOTE:
This hack only works on the first revision of the PS2 (SCPH-10000). It does not work on the newer SCPH-15000

            DVD Region Hack #2

It seems that Sony didn't do it's home work as it still is possible to playback Region 1 DVD's (US) on a PS2 even with the latest drivers installed, which should have prevented this in the first place!

Here are the instructions how to do it:

Load the DVD into the PlayStation 2
At the browser screen, select the CD icon then press and hold square and then circle until the DVD menu appears, holding both buttons all the time.
Then there are two ways to play the movie; you can either select the play icon or the movie start icon which is in the middle to the far left. If one doesn't work the other one will.

            NOTE:
This hack only works on the first revision of the PS2 (SCPH-10000). It does not work on the newer SCPH-15000
No idea if it works, but it might be of some use

You need an original non-analogue pad to use the hold up on d-pad trick.

Things like the namco arcade stick will do it too :-)

It don't work with all NTSC DVD's mate!
I've had it working for a while but there's no point if you've got a dedicated DVD player or DVD drive on your PC.
Plus it wastes space on your PISS2 memory card.
