Hi, I'd like to have a 6 button pad for fighting games on Dreamcast, but ASCII pads are hard to catch on eBay. I've seen Treamcast pads then got the idea (as these seems impossible to find stand-alone, w/o console). Why not get a Saturn pad and merge it with a Dreamcast controller cable? is this possible? how difficult is this task? and somoeno knows where I can find a scheme for each thread in the cable(s)? Thankyou!

Saturn pad on Dreamcast

Thanks, I've already had the idea of using an adapter but I'd prefer to have a pad to connect straight to the console.
In addition, SS to DC adapter aren't so easy to find. But I can use a PS2 pad (like the to be released Capcom SFII pads) and a PS2 to DC adapter (easier to find), and probably will choose this way while trying to get an ASCII pad at a reasonable price...

Why connect prefer the straight connection dude? There isn't any lag or anything and you don't have to physically butcher the controllers. The TC3 (and there isn't just the 3, that's quite old now although still available -- I bought some more recently) has a Twin-Stick option too so Saturn sticks can be used for VO:OT.

i've heard about lag too, although can't comment as i don't use controller converters. i'd much prefer the straight-through route, and this would be a case of noting down which buttons/d-pad directions are connected to which leg of the main controller chip and desoldering the chip. don't forget about the wires going to the dc cable!
then you'd open the saturn pad up and stick the dc chip in the case somewhere, and wire the buttons and directions as you'd want. dunno about translating the analogue L and R buttons to digital C and Z buttons, but hey it's worth a try if you're into modding and whatnot.
i'm planning on doing this, as i got the inspiration from www.gamesx.com and it just makes sense (especially using an xbox chip as xbox pads are huge!)
if you don't wanna do that, then get a converter.
i've got the circuit from a dc stick and it's really small - about 5x6cm - and has a mem card slot on it. i could wire the circuit up to a 15-pin connector or something, then put another connector on the saturn pad and use it like this. then you could wire, say, a psx pad to it too and swap between them.
