Azureus keeps giving me dodgy d/l rates and i can't shake off that yellow status light. I've even tried putting my PC in a DMZ but even that didn't give me green so i've probably got to tinker with azureus' settings. Any ideas?

You're getting a yellow status light because of a NAT problem. Have you opened up a port on your router? If not go into your router set up and select Application from the left menu under the Advanced tab at the top. Select Enable, enter a name (e.g. Azureus), select trigger port between 6881-6999 (I think Azureus only uses 6881 but you'd better check their site), and the trigger type is TCP.

If you still get a a yellow light and have a firewall then this is likely to be your problem. You will need to open up the port on your firewall too.

On a complete side note this router, like a lot of NAT routers, does not automatically stealth port 113 (IDENT). This port is rarely used and incoming IDENT requests are inherently unsolicited. Rather than stealth the port and just drop unsolicitored packets it returns a closed status on the port blowing your otherwise perfect stealth cover. To get around this you can forward port 113 in the router set up to a non-existant IP address in your routers IP range. To do this select Virtual Server under the Advanced tab, enable, enter a name (e.g. stealth port 113), enter an unused IP address in your range, enter port as 113, schedule as always, and then apply changes.

A small security tip for you.
