    Recommend a wirless Router

OK I keep hearing good thinks and bad things about the D-Link, Link Sys and Netgear Routers or review sites, anyone who has a wirless router who do you us, is the signal always good and does in work with NTL (which I assume is yes.)

    I'm using a Linksys Wireless G (WRT54G-UK)

works very well with NTL, and since i turned it on over 3 months ago it's ran just fine. Using it with my Apple Powerbook, but PCs users should have no problem getting wireless

the network card in a Mac is Apple's own brand (branded from some other Manuf. like Lucent) but if it says 802.11g or b on your card then it'll be fine.

I sort of guessed that was the case afterwards, kinda dumb question but I thought I would make sure.

Just to throw in my two pence, I've been running a Netgear WGR 614 for a month or so, and it's been behaving perfectly.
            Comes highly recommended.
            Make sure it's a v4 (silver) or v5 (white).
They say on the side of the box. If you get it online from ebuyers, etc. then it should be fine.

I use a Draytek 2600G wireless router for ADSL, they do make products for cable. If your interested visit www.seg.co.uk (For cable look at the 2900G).

As with all wireless routers the signal strength depends on the signal path. The signal on my router is better with my laptop outside compared to my living room as the signal has to pass through 1 wall instead of 2.

I think my walls are pretty thin and theres only really one wall and one floor to go through, I don't think there should be much of a problem.

Thanks to all for there advice.

Get the Netgear DG834G. I'd link you but I'm sure you're capable of finding it yourself. It's an excellent wireless modem/router/switch all in one.

Uh, what's packed in? The router or the bridge?

If it's the router, you replace it then just open the bridge's web-based GUI & scan for the new router. If it's the bridge, then a search of Amazon for "wireless bridge" brings up this as first hit. ?17 - bargain.

As a bridge in my room I have a Linksys WRT54GL. It might be overkill because it's actually a full router, but if you spend ?40-45 and install the Tomato firmware - the router actually runs on Linux so there are loads of custom firmwares for it, but that's the simplest - it'll work as a bridge, amongst other things. I have mine connecting to our wireless network and providing the connection to my 360, PS3, and Blu-ray player, and it's still got another port.

The good thing is that if you ever move or whatever and your networking situation changes you can use the same thing as a normal router, network extender, etc.

The stupid thing is that even as a full router with all those features, it's still cheaper than the 360 wireless adaptor

Anyone keep up-to-date on the wireless router scene?

I'm looking for something better than my current Netgear WPN824.

I'm a router noob, but I thought I'd enquire to see if there's some newer better performing routers out there these days. Need some extra range and anything else that's an improvement over my current one.

                              Cheers
