Best Gaming TV for around ?300?

Im looking to finially get rid of my 15" sony triniton portable tv after 10 years of gaming on it. As a dam poor student my budget is that of around ?300 and with so many cheap 28" widescreen tv's out there at the moment i thought I better ask if anybody knows which lower end tv is best for gaming. I really need it to run everything perfectly at 60# and I generally dont play import games although i would like the option to. Im defo looking for a widescreen I think and it has to be a big tv as im fed up using such as small screen as its proving a disadvantage on burnout 3!

    cheers for any advice.

I love my 21" Sony Wega. Gives the same size play as playing in 4:3 mode on my 28" WS Wega. got it from www.empiredirect.co.uk; I think it cost about ?178 plus ?10 delivery. In fact I loved it so much I bought another one for tate gameplay.

Alot of the 28" WS TV's that got for ?300 seem to give bit of a rubbish picture. I plan to stick with these TV's for 3 more years then buy a nice LCD screen when they come down to a reasonable level.

probably not the answer you were look for though.

If it's mainly for gaming, I'd get a 28" 4:3 TV. As JigsawMan said the playing size on a widescreen is less than 28" unless you distort the picture by stretching it

Whether you get a WS depends on how many DVDs you watch and what consoles you use most. If the answer is lots and Xbox and PS2 then fair enough but remember not all games support 16:9 and if they don't they should really be viewed in 4:3 mode, which gives you a much smaller picture for your money. I have this for "Retro" 4:3 gaming and I love it. Nice big 29" flat screen. Crap geometry as it's a Tosh but the picture is great when tweaked and nice sound and features too.

If you do go for a 21", I'd highly recommend the Toshiba one which goes for around ?130. The RGB picture is stunning and although it isn't a flat screen the picture is still crisp and the build is excellent. Having had a few problems with Sonys giving up the ghost, I'd say save a bit of money, buy this and keep the rest for later.

If I had to buy a budget range t.v, it would have to be a Sony.

I had a Sony for 10years and it worked 100% perfectly with a great RGB image.

Thanks v much for all ure suggestions. I will be using the tv for a lot of dvd's so would prefer widescreen. sorry forgot to say that im using it for an xbox mostly (pal). The problem ive had with my sony for soo many years (4:3) is that when using a rgb cable the picture is off centred, and i get a huge black border to the left of the screen. This has annoyed me too many times, and plus widescreen looks more impressive lol.

Think it will always be of centre...for some strange reason

Old tvs didn't have an option to centre the RGB image but these days a lot of them do.

To get my screen perfect, I always enter the service-menu that the public aren't meant to use and adjust everything

Service-Menus can be tricky though, so make sure you know waht you're doing

The 21" Sony Wega has an easily accessible adjust feature for moving the screen when it shifts when viewing an RGB image.

Also nearly every TV has a service menu that will allow you to change loads of settings. Make sure you know what you are doing before playing with them though - you may not get a picture back!

                        Pannasonic 28 PM1 from Empiredirect for ?360.

A little over budget but well worth it
