eternal darkness help

Easy, yeah i'm stuck on the fourht level. The one set in persia i think i'm near the end cos i've been playing it forever! Anyways i'm trapped in like this prison cell type room. With some skeleton hand in the center of the room, previously i collected some bright red statue in an empty room so i'm guessing that i'm gotta use this red thing. But where? theres no lock on the locked door, and whenever i stand near the skeleton hand and try to use the red thing it says i can't use the item right now. any help would be appreciated, as i'm enjoying the game and would love to finish it FINALLY
