    Dreamcast Chipping Help&Info(Bootdisc problems)Help!!

    Hi,
basically I have myself a Pink Sakura Wars Jap DC.I recently tried to use a bootdisc on this to play some US games and got absolutely no where with it,which came as something of a shock to me.I've also just found out now that this particular DC won't play music cds either!!!!!!!
I have no knowledge at all of DC modding matters and would really like to know why my console is not bootdisc and music cd friendly,is it something to do with the bios of the machine or is it hardware related?
If bios related could I deff get around both these problems by simply chipping(which specific chip would I need?) the machine or am I simply buggered and need to find another DC?
I understand that most DC's can play cdr discs if they are mil cd versions, mine is labelled as being such so I'am really confused to as why it won't allow the bootdisc.Would chipping also allow me to run emus via cdr on the console as well?
    Sorry about all the questions.
Any help would be so appreciated.
    Cheers famitsu1

You don't need a mod chip or boot disk to run dreamcast homebrew stuff (best to stick with the xbox for emulators anyway).

What kind of boot disc are you using for the US games? I can't stand disc swapping myself and would always recommend a mod chip as the best choice.

      Hi fella,
I'am currently using the Utopia bootdisc.
Yeah we seem to share the same dislike of disc swapping.Ultimately I would like to get the console chipped but as it doesn't seem to like bootdiscs I'am concerned that it may not like chipping either.
Does chipping work on all models and regions of DC console?Could you recommend a particular one?

I've also got the Sakura Wars DC. I'd read somewhere that for some reason this particular model won't play music CDs, but mine doesn't seem to have any problems playing them. However, the DC-X boot disc will not work on it at all.

I've never thought about looking into it in more detail though as I also have a PAL DC for PAL games and only one US game (which I can play with DC-X on the PAL console).
