    Music DVD -> CD

    Hi. Anyone know of a simple way of getting the music(sound) track from a dvd on to the PC in wav format for writing as a CD? I have some music DVDs (like Underworld, furries etc) and want to write them to CD now as the DVD player is my PS2 and not that convenient.

    I just want Everything Everything on CD!!!! Including the dvd only stuff.

    You'll need to DeCSS the VOB files on the disc, then extract the audio streams with something like Virtual Dub. This is (stupidly; its all for your own use) a legal grey area, though, so you're more likely to get more detailed assistance at dvdrhelp.com or somesuch.

      You have a DVD Video and you want to discard the video track and put the audio onto a CD, right? (What I mean is, you're not trying to convert DVD Audio to CD). The methods will vary slightly depending on what type of audio is on the disc, MPEG 2.0 (very unlikely), Dolby Digital (usually for movies) or Linear PCM (likely if it's a music DVD, but again it could be in Dolby Digital). I have no experience with PCM so this is guesswork.

      Expanding on what has been said above, you need to get the disc contents onto your hard drive ( http://www.dvddecrypter.com/ ). Once that's done, get VirtualDubMod (Virtualdub version capable of reading MPEG2: http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/ ). This is off the top of my head so bear with me: File > Open, find the .VOB file that's been ripped from the DVD onto your hard drive. Streams > Stream Information will bring up a dialog box containing information about the audio track (this is where you'll be able to see if it's Dolby, MPEG or PCM). Either way, highlight the audio track and click the DEMUX button. Give it a filename to output as.

      Now you have the audio track isolated and need to convert it to WAV (note the SAVE WAV box in VirtualDubMod doesn't seem to output a proper WAV file so ignore it), if it's in Dolby Digital format then you can use BeSweet to convert:

      Besweet: http://dspguru.notrace.dk/BeSweetv1.4.zip
      And the graphical interface for it: http://dspguru.notrace.dk/BeSweetGUIv0.6.zip
      (Unzip both into the same place)

      Run the BeSweet wizard program and you should fairly easily be able to specify input and output settings, just choose AC3-to-WAV, once it's done transcoding, try playing back the file and voila.

      Sorry if any of this isn't too clear, just email me [lyris1ATgmailDOTcom] if you need a hand.

        For those playing at home, Underworld's Everything, Everything contains Dolby 5.1 and PCM Stereo tracks, if memory serves.

          Cheers guys. I have not quite done it but am on my way!

          That dvddecrypter thing can isolate the audio only when it rips (saving my beleagured hdd!) so its great! Thanks again.
