    PS2 mod question

    Had a look for the answer but couldn't find exactly what I needed to know. A colleague at work has a PAL PS2 for sale for ?100 and I am tempted. First thing is to get it modded so I can get my hands on those Jap only games (Dodonpachi etc etc). Will this also allow me to play PAL un-optimised games at 60hz or will it display bordered slow 50hz nonsense where the game has been unoptimised?

    It will play games in their original form.
    NTSC = 60hz
    PAL = 50hz, unless there is a 50/60 switch at the start of the game. In which case you can use that.

    It will not convert bordered stuff like RRV/FFX into fullscreen/60hz.

      Bugger! Is there a software solution like a boot disc which forces a 60hz mode? I really only need it for my old PS1 games.

        What model is it? If it's a v3 (PAL launch model) then it's a pig to chip. Look on the bottom for screw caps and rubber feet - if there's ten in total then it's a v3 and you should leave it alone, if there's 8 in total then it's a v4 (or v5,v6,v7, or v8) and you'll be fine.
