The Sims 2 US - does it work on a European PC?

    Hi all,

I just wanted to ask everybody in this forum if I can import The Sims 2 from North America - will the US version work on a European (Italian) PC? I'd like to import it because a) it costs less b) I have to order NTSC games.

    Thank you!!!

Should do. PC games seem to work everywhere, and if they don't then a quick play around in the Control Panel will tell your O/S that you're living in America.

Quake 2 on PC was region locked though, the installer wouldn't start unless your Region was set to USA or Canada. The thing is, you could just copy the "data" folder off the disc and onto your hard drive manually Thankfully this useless and stupid idea hasn't happened again since.

I've bought US software in the past and its worked fine on my UK PC with no problems.

Cant see The Sims 2 being any different

I can't think of any recent PC game being regional locked so you shouldn't worry about any US pc game not working on your pc.

Could I slightly hijack this thread and ask whether anyone knows whether it is possible to patch a PC game so it plays in another language?

Thing is, I have cousins in Spain and I'd like to buy them games but the prices in Spain are stupid...

Not sure about patches - some European game releases have a multi language option when you install them. The Sims 2 european version is like this.

Guess it would depend on the game.

Yeah I got that the day it came out and was gutted that it wouldn't install... until I found the data folder. ****ing legend!

Cheers Spatial, it'd be grand if PC games told you whether they had different language options like console games...
