    Xenogears: Levelling Up

It makes a change for an RPG to give me trouble. On the other hand, I'm having real trouble levelling up. I'm getting the deathblows easy enough, but the actual character levels I'm really struggling with. I've just done the Reaper ship. Can anyone give me any suggestions?

As a side note, the gear battle so far have been a little easy, yet the on foot battle have had be tearing my hair out (especially the two undead guys in the sewers and the ship. Though with the latter I was using Billy, yet didn't bother to check if he had healing spells. >_< )

As long as you don't run from battles, you should be more than high enough level to tackle on everything. The game never forces you to level up.

Just cast healing spells when someone is hurt.

Those undead guys are probably the toughest battles you'll fight in the whole game whilst out of your gears. One thing to remember is saving up points so you can do combo's of deathblows. It's more effective than you might think.

I don't remember ever having to spend any time levelling to progress tbh. Unlike in Xenosaga part 1.

Having realised that Billy has healing spells, and that his speed up spell is stupidly powerful, I'm fair racing through it again. Must have just been that one tough section. But thanks for the help.

Though I will spend some time trying to get the higher level deathblows on the characters I use when I start to learn them.

Don't worry too much about the deathblows. They don't really improve in damage much, if at all. They're just new animations. I stick to the ones that have the shortest animation.
