    Inside a FireWire External HardDrive

Just wondering what people think/know is inside a FireWire external HardDrive, I am guessing its a standard IDE all trussed up... doing some preliminary research seems to indicate this. My friend lost his power supply and replacements are hard to comeby so I am thinking of tearing the physical drive out and mounting it on a *nix machine... assuming the MAC OS X format is available.

It is ... i pulled a 20 gig out of a cobra external and stuffed it in a g4 no problem - don't even think it needed jumpers configuring..

An external firewire case has a psu, a firewire bridge (to convert firewire to ide) and then an ide drive, either hard drive, or optical.
