    Gun Valkyrie

Just a quick question about this game, do you guys think it's worth getting? Some of the review scores I've read don't look too promising, but I love Smilebit's other two xbox games so I'm very tempted. Especially for a tenner brand new at gamestation. Any input would be great, thanks.

    In a word : Yes.

Vastly underrated imo. Should be in every Xbox collection.

      Top top top game.

You'll get it and think its ****e at first (i did anyway) but if you manage to stick with it until the controls click i'm sure you'll love it.

      Its easily worth a tenner.

Thats probably why it had so many dodgy review scores. People didn't "get" the controls and rather than put in an effort to learn just decided it was ****.

Until you get to Naglfar's pit that is Method. Level 9 I think it is....Nightmare!!!
Oops. Opened a can o' worms here methinks.

It is a very very very difficult game, but also excellent. If you ask me the game suffers through no fault of its own, but through the XBox pad.

The core mechanic in the gameplay requires the player to manipulate the left analogue stick whilst pressing it in to activate a boost. It's a very tricky technique to master. I'm not very good at it tbh, which is why I still haven't cleared the level mentioned above.

If you do decide to pick it up I would advise you let the game run through the attract mode, which demonstrates someone playing it properly. Once I saw this for the first time it opened my eyes to the possiblilities the system offers.

Indeed. But it really is a beautiful game up until that point, and worth a tenner just to play the levels leading up to the pit even if the pit makes you kick your controller around the floor. Which it will.

Hmm... can of worms isn't going away. But I'd recommend this game to anyone. The control system really is sublime... once it clicks, you can't imagine playing it any other way.

(edit: yep, what he said. beat me to it)

                Daisuki.
I bought GV at launch and still own it. I think it's a cracking game, however I have never beaten Naglfar's pit.

The can o' worms contains the following....
There are some who think Naglfar's pit, though hard, is fair...These are the people who can complete it
There are some, clever people, who maintain that Naglfar's pit is a breeze with the male character. I always played the female character due to the nice view, and didn't fancy going all the way from the start with the blokey, who also has crap weapons I believe.
There are others, like me, who just wish Naglfar's pit would be deemed a landfill site.

Which character did you use Daisuki?

I agree with your assessments entirely

                  * I'm sure it is hard but fair. To be honest, it's never really the case that you don't know what you're doing - just that you can't do what you want to because you're not good enough.

                  * Aye, the bloke had **** weapons and didn't look as good. I never use the blokes in games

                  * The pit should have had ladders in it. Or escalators. Or a lift. Anything but air thermals, to be honest.

                  * All things considered, though - what a game. If you can get it new for a tenner, it'd be all but criminal not to.

It's not that hard. Just take a bit of time, and a fair bit of Patients, Plus you get a bit of a shock when you make it too the top.

The last boss (is huge, and looks great) is a nightmare on the other hand. It took me ages to work out how to beat him

And even then it was more by luck than skill.

Great game I really enjoyed it.

The controls could have been better, for a start there?s no normal/reverse mode. And you should have been abele to just double push the left stick, in the direction you want to boost too.
Instead of pressing, the left stick in and then the dir you wnat to boost too.

Plus it was a bit short, and lacked a 2 player mode. But apart from that, and some slow down.

This is a game well worth picking up.
Still features some great graphics, and huge bosses

The reason it is hard is because ther is no one correct way of tackling it. It's a very non linear (circular in fact) level. Miss one jump and unless you are super quick on the recovery it is back to the beginning. I suspect a pro player could just keep building boost and make it up that way. Or maybe not.

That's pretty much how I did it. There are also glitches in the level, from walls you can walk up to bounding areas on slopes that you can't, but look like you can >_<

I did it with the female character. I couldn't get the hang of the bloke.

The mechanism for beating the boss isn't explained in the game, IIRC. It is good though but relies on far too much luck to beat him. His previous form is very easy though, also very impressive to look at.

Doesn't it also send you right back to the beginning of the level if the boss kills you? I seem to remember enjoying working my way around the level itself - unlike pretty much everyone else in the world ever, I thought the controls were absolutely sublime once you got used to them - but chucking the pad down in disgust when I discovered that I'd have to keep on redoing the same ten or fifteen minutes just to have another crack at (and death at the hands of) the boss.

Oh, and there's no way that putting the boost on a double push of a direction would have made things any easier. Think about how much accidental boosting that would have led to.

Yeah it did look impressive. Just couldn't seem to work out any patterns. (I could get the bloke either )

It was more or less sheer luck that I beat him. I was boosting all over the place .

Must say the Svart boss was really impressive too

Needs fully analogue twinsticks imo. Then it would be an incredible experience.
