What's wrong with my PS2's sound?

For some reason, the sound from my PS2 is screwed. Example being that in football games, the commentators sound like they're commentating via a mobile phone, with really bad reception.

I've got a chipped (this the problem?) white PS2, and an official Sony scart cable, so I can't see any problem there, and my other consoles seem to be fine also. Any clues?

Try another cable. If it still suffers from this problem then it's your PS2.

Depending on what chip you have fitted, this is almost certainly noise on the clock signal wire. This is especially likely on a v9 or v10 PS2, so I'm guessing your white one is one of those.

This can be sorted out by opening it up and replacing / re-routing the clock wire, using proper shielded or ground wrapped wire.

Depending on where the chip is mounted on the motherboard, it may also be that the clock wire is just too long - and the problem will stay even if you replace or re-ground the wire. In that case, you're looking at having the chip completely re-installed in a different place on the motherboard, that would allow for a shorter clock wire to be used.

      Will.

It's OK, it's not the chip by the looks of things. When I plug the PS2 directly into my TV the sound is fine, so it looks like a scart splitter problem. Which confuses me more because everything else in the splitter works fine, and switching them around doesn't help
