Yup, I've fixed countless similar problems in old Xboxes this way. You can tweak the potentiometer things. and squeeze a bit more life out of it, but at the end of the day the problem is the utter, utter ****ness of those early Thomson DVD units. Complete rubbish - but then it's Microsoft, so what do you really expect?

If your Xbox is more than a year old, as yours must be, you may be better off getting a new DVD drive and fitting it yourself. It's a 5 minute job, with two special screwdrivers you can pick up for about ?4 the pair, and mint Xbox drives go for as little as ?25 - 30 on Ebay. God knows how long an official Microsoft repair would take / would cost.

And in the meantime, just click this link a few times. Always helps me cheer up when some MS related nonsense annoys me

May need to right-click-save-as with that one, actually..

      Will.

In short, yes. it's been asked before, on the second page of topics in this subforum.

I'm as slow as Frank Bruno me. I was actually part of that thread. Sorry but thanks.

Edit Just to say i successfully swaped my drive, but the main reason for this edit is due to the fantastic service from Console Plus. I had a drive deliverd from them and it seemed to be faulty. Could've been my fault but they didn't question my explanation and sent me out a replacement drive without me sending back the faulty one. It worked fine and they told me to keep the other drive and sell it on ebay!! Can't grumble at service like that.
