    PStwo or Modded PS2

should i buy a Modded PS2 in the next few weeks or should i wait and see if the PStwo can be modded?

    #2
    Ask yourself a few questions:

    1. Do you need a modded PS2 within the next 20 days?
    2. Are you willing to wait for the PSTwo modding news?
    3. Is the size of the console a deciding factor in the purchase?

    If you have answered:
    1. No
    2. Yes
    3. Yes
...wait for the PSTwo, and any news of mod-ability.

    1. Yes
    2. No
    3. No
... Buy a modded machine now.

    1. No
    2. No
    3. No
    ... wait a little longer.

    1. No
    2. Yes
    3. No
... toss a coin. Either way, you're buying a modded machine (or not if PSTwo proves harder to crack)

Just wait. It's likely the PSTwo will be just as moddable as the older PS2's.

ok ill wait for pstwo, unless i find a bargain modded ps2

next question, should i get the PAL one and chip it, or get a JAP/US one and chip that.

also, wont the price of the ps2 come down with pstwo out?

usually it is easier to get a pal one if you are gonna be using it to play pal games aswell as jap/US.

              Actually, I *seriously* doubt that.

Despite what I've said before, I've been told some info that kind of makes me beleive the PSTwo will always be completely unmoddable, at a component level - no amount of time and effort will change that. If someone does manage it, I'll get my coat - but it's very unlikely to happen IMO.

But then again, they're so cheap so who cares - just buy one USA one, one JPN one and one PAL one - the three together are barely any bigger than one old skool PS2 anyway

It'll come down as the big retailers try and shift their stock to make way for the new model, and then it will go completely nuts on Ebay and the like when people realise there are no more old PS2 units left in Europe.

If you had a wedge of cash lying aroud, you could do a lot worse than to grab a few while you still can

Cheers man just got your pm

Well I already have a u.s and JP ps2 anyway, but I guess it would of been nice to have one single unit which plays all regions instead of the hassle of having multiple consoles to unplug and plug in all the time :/

                  Will, you have msnger?

A lot of stores are almost sold out of PS2s anyway. I've been in a few gaming/gaming-related stores the past few days and people have come in to buy new PS2s with no luck. Some stores have been saying that it'll be unlikely that they recieve more stock with the PSTwo's debut around the corner

Apparently Sony have halted production of the PS2 anyway

My guess is, if the PSTwo isnt moddable the modded PS2s will hold their value well, but vanilla ones will plummet in price

I guess we'll have to wait for some adventurous chippers to have a look inside.

Will, how will it me made 'unmoddable'?

Will i remember you saying when sony made it against the law to chip ps2's. You suggested an idea that would allow you to chip the machine just that you couldn't play cdr's and stuff on them. Is that still coming along. As i only want a chipped ps2 and right now chipped ones are really expensive.

According to MCV, ELSPA and Trading Standards seized and arrested Mod Chips and their distributer (the No1 distributer in the UK) in a seize the other day.

Really? I was labouring under the impression that the v9 and onwards PS2s already had all the die shrinking and component consolidation that make the PSTwo possible anyway. I'm definitely considering going down the multiple machines route rather than chipping in any case, though. Getting modded has gone up so much, and vanilla consoles gone down so much that if you just want two of the three regions (I'm passing on a JP machine as I can't do Kanji) its about the same price, plus with the new external power supply you won't even need a stepdown.

im sure they will be a way to open the console with out using the eject/open button.. so with the magic swap disc's should work.. we will just have to pray..
