Panasonic Q, STILL in Black and White

Right, i made a post not so long ago, and basically, you told me to go get a Modded Q lead, so I got one for my friend. But the Q is STILL in black and white.

Now, it's in black and white with sound when just the analogue lead is connected.

And when he connects the Digital Lead, all he get's is sound, no picture whatsoever.

What the dilly dally is going on? I thought the Modded lead was meant to fix the problem? Is the lead gashed?

    Cheers
    Scott

does he have the digital connector in the digital port and then the red and white audio connectors in the audio ports and the yellow connector in the yellow port.

He's got the yellow in there, and the Digital one in the digital one. But he only has one set of Red and White leads. What is the other for?

the other just connects the q to an amp.

sounds like a lead problem. check to see if a wire has come loose in the scart end first

Is he plugging it into the RGB socket on his TV? Remember, on most telly's there one, or at a push 2 SCART sockets that will accept RGB.

Sounds like he is just getting composite, or rather his tv is only accepting composite, is he positive that his TV even takes RGB? and I mean positive.

You need to change the resistor value on pin16 of the SCART connector - try going up to 300ohms.

Make sure he is connecting the digital lead to the digital port, the yellow video lead in at the back, and the red and white phonos where they should be too.

If there is no picture at all but sound, then that means that his TV simply cant handle an RGB signal..

Thats not strictly true, look at my post, the problem i was having was a blank screen but sound, as the TV didnt support composite i didnt get a B&W picture.

But by doing what the cunning Saur said it worked fine. (the TV does support RGB/60hz fine)

So how does he go about changing what Saur said?

Remember, when the Digital Input isn't in, he gets B and W and sound. ANd when it is in, he gets no picture and sound still.

So, is it looking likely something needs changing on the lead? Or is the Lead fuxored?

When the Digital lead isnt in - its basically playing in composite mode due to the yellow lead being plugged in, thats why its in black and white.

Theres nothing wrong with the cable, its just an issue with the TV.

To clarify - basically this Bush TV doesnt like NTSC modes, which you would have though might have been solved by using an RGB cable, but doesnt like RGB much either.... unless the RGB socket itself is faulty on the TV.

Part of the problem is that most TV's, although having auto-switch modes for RGB, rarely have a way of doing it manually.

                              Has the TV got teletext?

If it has try pushing the text button with the cube on and the correct av input selected.

If this gives you the gamecube, but obviously garbled text over the top, then a modification of the scart lead may get it up and running.

And yeah the new place is pretty good mate, you'll have to pop over one night.
