Gradius V - CD-ROM or DVD?

I've just got Gradius V on PAL, and I was surprised to see that it's on a CD-ROM disc, not a DVD rom. I'm sure I heard it was a DVD format release for the Japan and the US?

It doesn't really make any difference but CD-ROM discs make my PS2 'whirr' and they often cause problems (Marvel Vs Capcom 2 kept crashing on my machine).

Japan is CD also.

the US version is CD, as well. The whrrr noises aren't unhealthy, just 'cos the CD's are spinning at a high speed, you'll notice PS1 games without the 'fast access' or whatever option enabled don't do this, 'cos they only read at single speed or something.

If you're getting disc read errors though, it could probably do with repair

I'm not too concerned as it was only MvC2 that crashed on me, and I've heard reports from other people that it did the same on their machines, too.

The whirr really annoys me though. Ho hum. I'm sure it will be such a good game I won't notice.
