    SLoooooooow - NTL

Been having some really slow connection since the installation 2 weeks ago.

I've called NTL, they didnt seem to help.
over the weekend, sat night around 1am, i did manage to get some really fast connection speed. Speeds hit around 120kb/sec.

Right now im getting 26kb/sec dl and a bit more upwards
this is slower than dialup... and definitely strange, since when are upload speeds faster than download?? :O

I signed up for NTL 1MB but they've upgraded me to 1.5MB, so they say. Feels more like they downgraded me to an 80's connection.

Anyway, anyone got some suggestions for improving my speed? Or is anyone else suffering from the same problem?

    I live in Luton area.

    thanks!

You got 26kb/sec on dial up?

Check the modem settings -- point your browser at http://192.168.100.1 (root/root) and check what the modem settings appear as. It should look something like:

QoS max upstream bandwidth = 256000 bps
QoS max downstream bandwidth = 15360000 bps
You can't improve the speed yourself without breaking T&Cs (i.e. you'll get into trouble) but it could be anything from weather conditions to having to reboot the modem. It could always be a modem fault but it just sounds like temporary troubles.

When I was with Tiscali I always had very consistent download speeds, since moving to NTL with a faster connection it seems like 50% of the time it just crawls along - annoyingly I changed to a wireless set up at the same time so I've never been able to confirm NTL as the weak link, but I'm sure it must be.

ive done wat Marklar said, it didnt fix the problem.
              argh..

ill have to get my house mate to call NTL and give them a good grilling........

like said above i do suspect it to be a temporary problem as i did experience good speed last saturday night. However, good speed for 1 one night over 2 weeks is er... horrible!!

Make a written record of this poor service. You may be able to wangle some money off.
