    Router Advice needed

Hi, my adsl modem is actually a bit unusually at the moment so have decided its time a got a router and the hub fan is starting to sound like it is on the way out. This is how my setup is working atm. My main PC has an internal adsl modem, this comp has ics setup and is connected to a 4 port hub via the onboard lan. Attached to the hub are :
Port 1 My comp (Patch cable)
    Port 2 Xbox (Patch cable)
Port 3 and 4 are empty
The hub also has an uplink port which is connected via crossover cable to a pc downstairs ( mine is upstairs )
This is where im not sure ill be able to connect the router without having to change the wiring to the pc downstairs, which would be a major hassle as it goes under carpet through ceilings and allsorts. Do routers have an uplink port or am i going to have to rewire, wireless could be an option but id rather keep the wiring for now being as it is all already setup and save a bit of cash while im at it. Any advise would be appreciated and also which router would be best for my requirements.
Hope that makes some sort of sense to someone.

    Cheers Stu

you'd be best off going for a adsl modem router as then you dont have to do ics and u can get crossover to straight converters for cat 5 cable, so no need to redo the wire.

i have an xbox, ps2 and pc running thru ebuyers own make 4 port adsl modem router and it works fine. it only cost 43 quid when i bought it few months ago

All 3 of the routers i've tried (dabs value 4 port, 3com wireless and netgear dg834g wireless) allow you to use either crossover or straight cat 5 cables, they were intelligent enough to detect the type of cable etc.

I returned the 3com unit as it couldn't cope with any heavy traffic - 3com admitted this. The cheapo dabs one worked fine, but I wanted one with wireless built-in so when with the Netgear DG834, and this is working brilliantly.
