    Dead Panasonic Q

Not only has my PC been dying on me all week but, in a haze of tiredness, illness and not having used the bugger for so long, I very, very, very stupidly plugged my Panasonic Q directly into the wall i.e. without using a stepdown.

Whilst the intial result was not any where near as spectacular as when my flatmate once did the same to an NTSC X-Box (BANG!) (the Q issued forth a whimper (click!)) the end result is the same - fuxxxored.

Can I get my silver baby repaired? Will I recover the one console that was certain to make me an ebay billionaire in 1000 years' time? In short, can you help?

Welcome to the club matey, i did exactly the same thing!! I still haven't got mine fixed as it's quite expensive, i was quoted ?80 @ ravengames, but apparantly they are an absolute bast to take apart as they're built in layers and yes you guessed the psu is right at the bottom.

It's not too bad once you get used to it, once you get to know the Q you can take it apart in no time - ?80 is steep for a console repair, but you do know that there are members here who will do a better job for half that or less?

Check the chipping, retailers and services thread at the top of this forum section. I'm not shy in slagging off the work from these import shops - I've had many machines sent to me that have been botched by places like Raven, Goldenshop, Lik-sang etc, recently had an N64 in who's motherboard had been GLUED to the machine to prevent further work. The last Q I had in was badly damaged by an RGB cable Raven supplied, this was the single worst piece of electronics work I have seen in a long time and dont get me started on what people do to Panasonic Qs regarding the multiregion mod...

I'm considering taking them on -

There's a couple regulators and a capacitors on the PSU board that will blow if you plug it into UK mains, problem is these components are unmarked. I'm trying to get hold of a dead Q someone sent to me before to work out what's what beforehand.

Well that'd be a great help if you start doing them, you won't be short of business as i know for sure that there have been a few posts recently regarding the Q. You'll have to let us know a price etc when you've sorted things out.

            Cheers
