Crapsticks, is this Xbox mod possible?

Right, I did have the Microsoft High Definition Pack for Progressive Scan. Now, the bonus of this, was that it also had an optical out for 5.1 sound.

Being a fool, I bought the IXOS Xbox Cable after hearing how much of an improvement it makes.

BUT, got it today, and didn't click that it doesn't have an Optical out connection on it.

I think my friend modded his actual Xbox to have a Co-axial out on the back of the xbox itself, I was wondering if it's possible to mod it with a Digital Optical out? That way, I wouldn't have to buy myself another co-axial lead.

Bah, looks like there's a mod for co-axial, but not optical. That'll have to do. Just wished I didn't have to buy any more cables.

There is a guide here http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/digital-output.php but it does say "untested".

I could see no difference between the ixos cable and the microsoft one on the projector mate, in fact the image seemed to get a little dark using the ixos one when running in 720p.

i did the coax mod too, works a treat (and looks nice too)

as for toslink, yes that mod is untested, but there's another mod there (in a zip file) with a bunch of pictures and a crap word document. however, it shows that someone has actually performed it successfully, so i should see no problems arising from the mod

give it a go and see what happens

i haven't done the optical mod myself as i have the advanced av pack anyway (and now we have a pal dvd player with optical only so i HAD to do the coax mod for my xbox to watch ntsc dvds)
